Freemasons have quietly been among the world's most generous givers for three centuries. Charity is not an add-on to the Craft — it is one of its foundations.
Ask a Freemason why he joined and you will hear many answers — friendship, history, self-improvement. Ask him why he stayed, and charity is almost always part of it. The care of others is woven into the very fabric of the Craft.
A Long Tradition of Giving
For more than three hundred years, Freemasons have raised and given extraordinary sums to those in need — funding hospitals, medical research, scholarships, aged care, disaster relief and support for the vulnerable. In New South Wales and the ACT, Masonic charities continue to give millions each year to causes that reach far beyond the fraternity itself.
Local Hands, Local Good
Grand gestures matter, but so do small ones. A lodge is rooted in its suburb, and much of its charity is close to home: supporting a local family through hardship, backing a community project, or simply being present when a neighbour needs help. The Bexley community has been part of our lodge's story for over a century, and it remains so.
Charity Without Fanfare
Freemasonry teaches that relief given quietly is worth more than relief given for show. Much of what our brethren do is never publicised, and that is exactly as it should be. The measure of the giving is the good it does, not the notice it attracts.
